Animal Bites and Attacks

If you or your child has been bitten or attacked by an animal, whether in a residential or public area, you may have a legal right to seek compensation. This includes compensation for physical injuries as well as emotional damages. Victims, particularly children, may experience long-term psychological effects, such as anxiety, fear of animals, post-traumatic stress, or difficulty returning to public spaces.

In the event of an animal bite or attack, the owner is required by law to report the incident to the local animal control department. Once an attack is reported, the animal may be classified as dangerous, which serves as a formal warning to the owner about the pet's aggressive tendencies.

If you are involved in an animal bite or attack, prioritize your safety above all else. Take photos and videos of any visible injuries and of the scene of the incident. Call the police and provide details of the incident. Seek medical attention from a medical professional as soon as possible.

In Nevada, the statute of limitations for animal bites or attacks is generally two (2) years. This means that you must file a lawsuit for personal injury arising from an animal bite or attack within two (2) years from the date of the accident. If you fail to file the lawsuit within this time frame, you may lose your right to seek compensation for your injuries or damages. It’s important to consult with an attorney as soon as possible after an animal bite or attack to ensure you meet all deadlines and preserve your legal rights. Animal bites or attacks can lead to significant physical, emotional, and financial consequences. An animal bite or attack lawyer can help you pursue the justice and compensation you deserve.
